This Edison Model B Standard has been fitted with the conversion kit that Edison sold beginning around 1908 to allow Edison phonographs to play both the old two minute records, and the new four minute records. In some respects, it's a little like purchasing two machines for the price of one.
The machine has very decent original finish, original decal and a clean bedplate. More important, it has been gone through mechanically to make sure it is reliable and running properly.
I don't like to use the word restored, especially because I don't know what it means when people use it on a venue such as ebay. With some sellers, it seems to mean that an amateur finish has been slopped over the original varnish, or that someone has saturated the gearing with oil. However, I can tell you exactly what has been done to this machine.
Everything has been taken totally part, inspected, cleaned, lubricated, adjusted and put back together. The upperworks has been freed up for smooth running. The gear cage has been disassembled and all the teeth freed of old grease and grime. The governor shaft has been removed and polished. The mainspring has been re-greased. And the machine has been re-belted.
The reproducer has also been disassembled, rebuilt, and re-gasketed for maximum sound.
This Standard comes with a Model C two minute reproducer. Add a Model H four minute reproducer, and you will be all set for almost every kind of record Edison manufactured.
Price includes 14" brass and black replica horn, and 5 nice original two minute cylinders.
