Musical dioramas, sometimes called musical tableaux, were popular during the Victorian era.
This unrestored example is about 18 inches tall, and features a ship rocking, a castle and a small musical movement.
The movement looks complete but is presently not working. I haven't taken it apart and played with it, but it may be that it just needs restringing. Some elements such as the crepe paper sea will need to be filled in and reconstructed. The original dome has some typical flaking paint.
I don't want to ship this because of the fragility of the glass and the item. You're welcome to pick it up, or else I'd be happy to deliver if I travel to your area.
Quite scarce, spectacular, and worth considerably more than our price.
