The eighteen inch Mira music box is generally conceded to be one of the finest, if the finest, of disc music boxes ever made.
Manufactured by Mermod Freres of Switzerland from the late 1890s until around 1909, the Mira is known for its deep resonant bass and brilliant tone.
The decal decorated case of this example has traditionally been considered by collectors as the most desirable of Mira cases.
The mechanism here is playing properly. There are no broken teeth and there is no damper noise.
The cabinet is not pristine mint, but is very respectable, showing minor distress commensurate with age. There was some minor restoration work performed on the cabinet, not affecting the integrity of the cabinet.Among other things, the often missing partitions in the disc storage were replaced. The two upper boards surrounding the bedplate are new wood. There was some repair and re-glueing of the feet, and some veneer replacement and tack down, mostly on the rear of the case.
Includes ten discs.
