A nicely restored Edison Standard Phonograph, with combination gearing to play both 2 and 4 minute cylinders.
This is the Model B Standard ca 1904-1909, fitted with the conversion kit available in 1910 to allow the machine to play the new 4 minute records.
Cosmetically, the cabinet has been professionally refinished with a quality reproduction decal and looks great, even better than the photographs show. The machine originally had this type of banner decal, rather than the later plain Edison script decal.
Mechanically, everything in the motor and upperworks has been taken apart, cleaned, inspected, lubricated and adjusted. The governor shaft and collar have been polished for smooth running. The mainspring has been pulled and re-greased, a big job, but important after 120 years. The machine has been re-belted, and is now running as smooth as can be.
The Model H 4 minute reproducer that comes with this Standard is a reproduction (I don't know whose), and is playing very loud and strong. Four minute Blue Amberols are the easiest kind of cylinder to find, so you will have no trouble in obtaining additional records. If you want, you can always purchase a Model C 2 minute reproducer and you will be all set to play almost any kind of cylinder that Edison might throw at you.
You can hear how well this plays by clicking on the audio link, or by viewing the youtube video below.
Comes with a 14" brass and black replica horn, and six Blue Amberol records. Wait -- wait! Want more records? Act now, and we'll up that to 10 cylinders!
