Introduced in 1913 at a price of $80, the Amberola V is one of the better quality, better constructed models predating the factory fire of 1914. After the fire, the first run of Amberola models were replaced by the more commonly seen Amberolas 30, 50 and 75.
The motor was unique to the machine, featuring a single spring driving an enormous flywheel. The top works was fitted with a brake to stop the motor at the end of the cylinder, something seen in only a few other rare Edison models.
The thing I would like to emphasize about this Amberola is that it is in great, great original condition. It is very nice original finish over the oak cabinet, and the paint is in very, very nice condition also. Even the wood graining on the horn, which is typically prone to rust, displays itself clearly. It is becoming increasingly hard to find machines that have not suffered the ravages of age, and condition counts for sophisticated collectors.
The machine is running fine. I partially disassembled the reproducer and adjusted it so it works properly, and I also adjusted it to take up the warping commonly found on Blue Amberol celluloid cylinders. This machine is really booming out, as you can hear on the youtube video below.
Includes five Blue Amberol records to get you started.
