Edison Amberola 50 - Oak for sale

$495

Three Amberola models were released following the great factory fire of 1914: the 30, 50, and 75, the model designation referring to their original price in dollars. The Amberola 50 was a tabletop model larger than the Amberola 30. The larger horn on the 50 yielded increased volume, and its double spring motor offered extended playing time.

This example arrived in great playing condition, as you can verify by listening to the youtube video below. I have tested it, and lubricated the trouble spots on the upperworks just to be safe.

The machine has been nicely refinished. This is one of those rare occasions where the machine looks better in person than in the images. There is a very minor repair on the molding above the crankhole escutcheon, probably where the cabinet was hit by the crank.

I have seen far more of these in mahogany than in oak. The oak version has traditionally been more appealing to modern collectors.

I would never put this machine in the rare category, but with its diamond stylus it does offer an excellent, convenient way to play your 4 minute Blue Amberol cylinders.

Price includes five cylinders to get you started.
