Following the great factory fire of 1914, Edison introduced a series of new Amberola models, the 30, 50, and 75, referring to their initial price in dollars. The machines employed a new diamond stylus reproducer, and shared substantially the same direct drive mechanism, differing only in the size of the cabinet, the size of the horn, and the number of springs in the motor (one or two).

The Amberola 30, the least expensive of the lot, turned out to be an excellent seller. Though not rare, it is a robust and reliable workhorse to play Edison's four minute Blue Amberol series, and its cute compact golden oak cabinet seems to be more appealing to modern tastes than its more expensive siblings.

Blue Amberol records were made until 1929, are readily available, and are the easiest kind of Edison records to find.

This is a great original example of an Amberola 30, one of the nicest I have ever seen. It's one of the few I have encountered that didn't need some degree of restoration.

The cabinets on these usually exhibit a bad case of veneer peel disease, but there is no substantial veneer peel on the original finish veneer.

The machine still retains its original grille and grille cloth, something you rarely see.

The reproducer is booming out loud and articulate. One nice thing to note here is that this is not the pot metal reproducer used later in the production run; this is an earlier Amberola 30 with the speed control conveniently extending through the gear cover.

The motor is running nice and smooth.

I have checked and lubricated the trouble points.

The only repair I had to make was to replace a missing part on the horn assembly to make sure the horn stayed in place.

You can hear how nice this plays on the youtube video below. Price includes five original Edison cylinders.
