This is the hard-to-find adapter that will allow you to play regular 78rpm records on an Edison Diamond Disc Phonograph.
For most of the lifetime of Diamond Disc machines, Edison was not allowed to sell an adapter such as this for patent reasons, so most of the surviving adapters were aftermarket items. Also, Edison wanted to push sales of the special thick Diamond Disc records; an adapter would only encourage his customers to buy another company's regular 78rpm discs.
There were several companies that made these adapters, in varying quality. This one is quite nice, and remains in beautiful condition, with very nice, shiny nickel plating.
The adapter just pops into the small end of your horn. Loosen the knurled fitting at the small end of the horn, slide out your Edison reproducer, and insert the adapter.
The great thing about this adapter is that it is slotted to accept a Victor reproducer. I have fitted it with a rebuilt Victor Exhibition reproducer, the finest reproducer of this era. I also put a new flange on the reproducer for airtightness.
If you want to hear your 78rpm records as they were intended to be heard, with absolutely the most lifelike, faithful reproduction of this era, then this is the way to go. This adapter may be a little more expensive than others you may see, but it is more than worth it for the superior sound quality and condition.
