The Edison Fireside Phonograph was introduced in July, 1909. Originally intended as a replacement for the Edison Standard, it survived alongside the Standard, becoming a bit scarce for modern collectors, though not rare.
This compact little machine used a tried and true Standard motor, along with some updated components in the upperworks. It is an extremely reliable mechanism, as well as a machine easy to get parts for.
The setup here, with cygnet horn and K reproducer, is everything you would want in one machine. The K reproducer allows you to switch between two and four minute records, a little like getting two machines for the price of one. The cygnet horn was the best sounding, most faithful horn Edison ever manufactured (along with perhaps the wooden Opera horn); with its vertical arrangement it offered to save space as opposed to earlier horns, as well as louder volume.
This is a very nice example of the Model A (first) Fireside.
The cygnet horn retains good original paint and decals, which is hard to find.
The case appears to have been at least partially refinished at one time, with a new front decal applied.
The bedplate is very clean, with no rusting.
The craning looks to me like an older reproduction. It's nice to get any kind of proper craning, as reproduction craning is not available as of this writing.
The machine is working properly, as is playing well both on 2 and 4 minute settings. You can hear it play a Blue Amberol cylinder on the youtube video below.
Price includes a half dozen original cylinders to get you started.
