Victor Type A

This article is part of the ANTIQUE PHONOGRAPH, GRAMOPHONE AND TALKING MACHINE IDENTIFICATION GUIDES.

Introduced in 1901 at a price of $12, the Victor A was the least expensive offering of Eldridge Johnson's new Victor Talking Machine Company.

The design, including the vetical crank motor jutting out of the rear of the casing, reveals its Berliner heritage. Note the horizontally oriented tonearm.

The motor case on this example has been repainted gold.
